trapped on a saturday

| |

Last night we came home to discover that our front door was ajar and when we tried to shut the door, we couldn't! The latch wouldn't engage. We spent hours trying to play with the alignment, but to no avail. Apparently because of the heat (although it was only 85º!) our PVC door misaligned. There was nothing we could do last night, so we decided to just go to bed and leave it until the morning. Weary of intruders though we rigged a booby-trap lest someone break in.

K, so it's not really a booby-trap, but more of an alarm system. Basically when the baddy tries to sneak in, he will knock the chair sending the forks and hangers crashing to the floor and thus scaring him away. Doubtful? Well it worked!

Early this morning we awoke to the sounds of crashing silverware. Dan in his sleepy stupor called out, "who's there!?" In which case the man replied, "uhh, postman". The chair was blocking the mail slot and so when he tried to put in our mail he tipped the chair. Anyway, I ran to the door to say thanks and explain but he just gave me a really strange look and walked away. Poor guy.

So now we are trapped in the house until we can get the emergency maintenance to come by. Trying to get a hold of the number, on a Saturday, is proving tough. We had plans to go to Cambridge today, but those are obviously cancelled. So here we sit in our basement while another gorgeous 80º day passes us by.
