decision made

| | 13 thoughts

There's a reason why I wore these socks under my boots today...

'heart london' socks, instead of 'heart oregon' socks.

We've decided to move to London after graduation! Dan will pursue his dream of working in professional soccer (working, not playing), and I will try as hard as I can to get a job. We are so excited for this adventure, and I am soooo looking forward to graduating in June.

haven't written this much in ages.

If you have read my blog long enough, or know me well enough, you may have gathered that I LOVE PROJECTS. It's just that sometimes I start a project without really thinking things through. When I get an idea, I will become really excited and immediately start trying to make that idea happen. This hastiness has gotten me into trouble a few times.  Take for instance, 'the suburban incident.'

When I was little my parents got wood paneling installed on our suburban (kind of a favor to a friend). Well it wasn't the best job, and we all occasionally made comments about it. So I got it into my head that I would fix this by taking all the paneling off ( by prying it with a flat head screw driver), minutes before we were set to leave for San Diego. Needless to say, the adhesive was really really sticky and I ended up making a mess, and the Suburban never fully recovered.  I remember when my mom saw what I was doing and said, "Caitlin, what are you doing!!??" I looked down and thought, "oh yeah! what am i doing? what was i thinking?"

I had another experience like that yesterday. Our living room is really dark, so I decided I wanted take one of my task lamps, paint it white, and put it in the living room for some added light. So of course that meant that right away. So I brought spray paint outside and began to paint the lamp. Well being that it is cold and wet, the paint wouldn't dry. So it was just dripping everywhere, and when I tried to spray over a spot that had already been sprayed, it just spread the wet paint around making it even uglier.

Dan said I should just forget it, and being that I won't leave projects unfinished, I decided to take the lamp inside and turn my bathtub into a spray booth (minus the ventilation). To alleviate the fumes, I had two fans going and left the window open in the adjacent room. It took all night for the smell to go away, and my bathroom looks ridiculous. So lesson learned, don't be hasty. Although I have to say, this turned out much better then the suburban.

Being a GRF [graduate research fellow] has a ton of perks. But  perhaps the most exciting perk is what my insurance covers: 20 visits of either naturopathy, acupuncture or massage.

I have a much needed massage scheduled for Tuesday.

souvenir

| | 0 thoughts

I'm not one for souvenirs, because I hate owning useless things.  Useless in the sense that they either don't have a purpose or don't have any sentimental value. So when Dan asked what I wanted from London, I told him nothing.  And although I was serious, he came back with a souvenir, but a really really great souvenir.

A vintage 50s era tea cup candle, practical and beautiful.

Notice also the souvenir I brought back from Japan- matches, practical and beautiful.

miles

| | 1 thoughts

i try not to be an over consumer, but sometimes it just feels nice to buy new things...especially if there actually isn't any money involved.  let me explain, with our trip to japan and dan's recent trip to london, we had united miles to spend (which expire in two days). dan had 25,000 miles to spend and i had 15,000. here's what we walked away with:

some pretty hideous speakers, but work with laptop and ipod (great for traveling)

new earphones for jogging
camcorder
and my favorite...a new backpack

A diagram

Translation: Dan just spent 15 hours on a train to San Francscio, so he could fly to London on a 10-hour direct flight. A 15 hour train ride to cross states vs. a 10 hour flight across the entire United States and Atlantic Ocean!  Why can't our train system be more like Europe or Japan?

flight searching

| | 0 thoughts

San Francisco to Eugene: the lowest fare is $153.00, but why do that when you can pay $888.00 pre-taxes and fees...$888!! That's more than Dan's flight to London.  Act fast though, because there are only two tickets left at that price.

Dan's little vacay

| | 1 thoughts

Due to a recent hiccup, Dan's on a little vacay this afternoon.

 In Seattle

Here's what happened: he leaves Monday for London, but yesterday he realized that his passport had expired. And being that Seattle is the closest Regional Passport Agency, he made an appointment for 10 am today. So at 4 am he woke up and drove 5 hours to get a same day renewal.  He has to wait a few hours for the passport to process, so in the meantime he is site-seeing, eating at new vegan restaurants, and hanging out at this building by Rem Koolhaas
I'm jealllouuus.
