Good News, Bad News

Bad News: I wasn't chosen as a finalist
Good News: We get to enjoy our Spain trip to the fullest (yay!) I am actually pretty happy with this. I mean my ego would have enjoyed being a finalist, but in all honesty this competition for me was more about designing again, and adding to my portfolio.  And in that way it was a success. Plus, I was not looking forward to figuring out the logistics of traveling to CA for a day and a half.

You can check out the finalists here, if you are interested. Amongst the finalists, I think there are a few clear leaders, and actually a few that I am not too impressed by.

We leave for Spain Tuesday at 3am, and are busy trying to get organized. Let's hope everything we need fits into our carry-ons!

where I've been

A few weeks ago my parents told me they received a postcard in the mail, addressed to me, informing me of an architecture competition. This competition is reserved for alumni of either UO or Cal Poly, and the grand prize is a whopping $10,000 travel scholarship. Basically on Thursday evening you are told what the project will be, and you must have a completed design by that following Monday. It's what we in the architecture world would call a charette.
I decided to participate, not because I thought I would win, but because I was itching to do some designing. In a matter of 4 days I only slept about 13 hours, but it was so nice to be doing architecture again! Tomorrow they will announce the finalists, and if selected, I will have to be in California to present my project on April 6...or forfeit. Well, guess who's going to be in Spain on April 6!? It's really inconvenient, but in some ways it's nice becaaaaause, if I am selected as a finalist- how exciting, and if I am not- well that means I just get to enjoy my Spain trip.

Anyway, here are my final boards- you're viewing them as a spread, but they are actually 4 individual boards.

Hello, hello. I am feeling well again! In fact, I am feeling so well that I awoke at 5:45am this morning so I could get in a run before work. Now before all you early birds say, ohhh that's nothing. I will have you know that on my days off I typically don't arise until 11. It's not that I am lazy, I just don't go to bed until 3am or so (old architecture habits die hard). Annnyway, my new plan is to follow good ole Ben Franklin's advice and start going to bed earlier.

I know you were all dying to hear about my new sleeping habits, so now that that's out of the way, here is a brief update.

Good news in the Dan department! He has started an internship with Fulham FC!

I'd like to give a special shout out to Noelle, who introduced Dan to his contact at Fulham.

In other news....Even though funds are lacking, we decided to be somewhat spontaneous and book flights to EspaƱa! I have been wanting to visit Spain for a while. Did you know 1. I came this (<-->) close to minoring in Spanish in college, and 2. that I came this (<->) close to studying abroad in Spain? At the last minute though, I decided to give up my spot and accept an internship in San Francisco instead. A good decision that was too, there I learned all about veganism, cat stevens, and my love for Dan (he was there that summer as well).

The first stop on our trip is Barcelona!

Then we take the bus to Valencia! Our goal was Granada, to see the Alhambra, but unfortunately tickets are completely sold out, so another time perhaps.

Then last but not least Madrid!
A week after we return from our glorious vacation, 2/3 of Dan's sisters will be coming to visit! It will be like this all over again, minus TJ.

I have a head cold which means I am not really in the mood to give an update post. It would require too much brain power for my foggy brain. Instead I will share a photo that I happened upon today, taken while I was studying in Japan.

I included some captions, just in case you missed how adorable and fantastic this is. Not to mention their matching shoes, caps, and thermoses. When I look at these kiddos I internally scream shouts of cuteness. I have the same reaction when watching this...
