A few weeks ago I spilled water on my ipod and it stopped working, all it would do is show a sad face
So this Saturday on our busy Portland trip to IKEA, temple, and crate and barrel, I decided to drop off at the mac store to get my ill ipod some tlc. But apparently I had to make an appointment and two of the three apple stores were completely booked, but I got squeezed in at 6:15 at the farthest location. Ikea took way longer than planned (big surprise) and I ended up being 15 minutes late to my appointment at the genius bar- normally this wouldn't be a big deal, but there is no apple store in Eugene, and with my schedule we wouldn't be making another trip to Portland for at least a month. I was put on the standby list and luckily able to see a helper- and you know what he told me?? My warranty expires tomorrow! Had I been just 24 hours later I could not be helped. BUT....because I made it just in the nick of time, they handed me a new ipod no questions asked. Thank you genius bar!

The days just get shorter
Some of you may know the reputation of Architecture school. For those of you who don't it isn't too unlike med school, we just use different parts of the brain and only spend 3.5 years doing it. How is it like med school then? We don't sleep or have any free time. Take for example last Saturday when I spent 16 hours in the studio, or the number of times I have had to stay up until 3 am. Every spare moment I have I spend it with my beau Daniel, which has left no time for other activities that make me happy:
reading
NY times crossword
yoga
running
swimming
organizing
crafts
talking to my family
watching movies
Luckily I have found time to bike ride with and cook/bake for my beau.
Well the purpose of this post is to announce that as of last Sunday my free time just got less free. I have been called as the Laurel adviser. I am so excited/ overwhelmed/ willing, this is the best calling ever- the only problem is I have never been a Laurel I don't even know if I am spelling it right or if it should be capitalized. But I still couldn't be happier....no I could be happier if I didn't require sleep.

over it
I am not looking forward to our architecture over night field trip. Traveling around Oregon will be great, but sharing a hut with 30 people, no thanks. Give me a sleep over on my memory foam mattress with my hubby any day.
But I will tell you what I am not over...The Oregon Country Fair!! It was incredible, more than I could have dreamed of. Its like Bay to Breakers and Disneyland (PG13 version) combined, then multiplied by a thousand and put in the middle of the forest, for three days. Our pictures honestly don't do it justice, it was a 360 degree experience. But I will post them asap.

for my papa
Here is my first architecture assignment. I am not super happy with it, but generally happy. So with the "Wall House" I wanted to emphasize the wall upon entering, an austere, communistic like sense; then open up the space and unify it with the surrounding forest. I also wanted it to act as the gate to the rest of the site. This is just the temporary guest house, right now we are in the process of building a tower that will go on the same site, and later a 30x 30 home.

Happy Fourth
For the fourth Dan made a delicious vegan lemon pound cake with red strawberries and blue blueberries, so festive. We met up with friends from school to watch fireworks by the river and eat watermelon. Then Dan and I went off so Dan could experience his first fourth of July firework lighting. Being from California where firecrackers are illegal, he has been deprived of this celebratory ritual...good times.Oh and our friend gave us sparklers to ride home with, but it turns out it was just incense...boooorrring

Birthday
Today is my birthday and despite spending ridiculous hours in the studio yesterday and today (this is being written from my studio desk), Dan and I have managed to celebrate. Last night we went to the Oregon Bach Festival- front and center...very first row. It was so fun and I am so glad I pulled away from this site model I have been working on to go. I made vegan lemon cupcakes for the studio this morning- soo good, and tonight Dan and I are going to Rataouille- an upperscale organic veg/vegan restaurant. This is one hot spot Dan and I have yet to try, so we are so excited.
So for school we have a site in the Oregon forest right on the lake. Our assignment is to build three buildings on that site as a residence for a family. Right now we are working on the guest house/ temporary house until the main house gets built. It is only 360 square feet, and has to be 12' wide, the walls that run the longer length have to be concrete blocks. We also have to build a site model at 1/4 scale and it is taking forever. Monday the site model has to be done and we have to have a wood model of our home as well as plans and sections. So much to do.
I can't find my camera cord, but I will post pictures when I find that puppy. Photos are always more interesting than text- well not always but when its my text they are.
