Remember this post from a year ago? I talked about our new anniversary tradition to write memories of the past year in a hand-bound book by moi. I committed to binding the book after I returned from Japan, which of course didn't happen. But, I did finally get around to it and we now have our anniversary book! I ran out of paper, so there are only enough pages to last until Dan's 100th birthday, which means I will be 96 years old when I finally pass. Here's to 72 more years of marriage!

another one down.
I have completed yet another studio, this Summer will be my last studio before I enter terminals (think of it like a thesis studio). This term actually could have been my last studio, but I chose to take an extra because I wanted to do furniture so badly.

anniversary.
Our anniversary last year had to take a rain check because May 31 happens to be right during review week (which is 10000 times more miserable than finals week). This year however, thanks to furniture studio, we were able to celebrate with an entire Anniversary weekend.
Rachie came to visit which was fantastic, then we headed up to Portland to watch the Timbers play Boca Jr., and they won 3-2!On the 31, we hiked Mt. Pisgah

We then went to our favorite Thai restaurant for supper. At dinner, Dan told me had a surprise for me at home. Once we got there, he made me stand in the living room blind-folded while he busied about the house (turns out he was packing me an over night bag). He then said, ok let's go, and led me out of the house and back into the car. I tried to guess where we were based on the turns and stops, but could not figure out where we were headed. This is where we finally stopped:Dan had reserved a night at this Bed and Breakfast, so that I "could have a relaxing night away from the house and not have to worry about homework, dishes, or work". Dan's such a sweet man! It's weird we have been married two years already, I still feel so smitten.

uhhh btw...
I forgot to mention my sister is getting married! Her fuhub, as she likes to call him (future husband), proposed under the Brooklyn Bridge right before Christmas.
Here is the "save the date" I designed for them.
I can't wait for the wedding; NYC in the summer is the best! I am excited for Dan, because he has only been to the big apple in the winter time, which isn't the best.
I am so happy for Nicole, being married is the greatest.

So remember that bike shelter we are designing? Today we broke ground! It was very exciting, and perfect weather. I worked on my tan, got my hands dirty and got to use machines like this:
and this...

I am ashamed to admit that I have about 5 blogs (I really only upkeep a few), and unfortunately as of Thursday, I now have 6.

Another term finished (well, almost). Typically I feel a great sense of accomplishment and relief at it all being over, but studio this term is different: I feel that sense of accomplishment, but relief is absent.
I suppose this is a good thing, it means that our studio project will actually be built and hence the need to continue working to solidify our design and submit a permit set to the city. For those readers, if any still exist, unfamiliar with my project here's the run down:
designBridge is a student-run design-build organization that volunteers within the community. Unlike most studio projects in school where a student designs hypothetical buildings, designBridge projects will actually be constructed, and we the students get to design, generate construction documents, and physically build it ourselves.
I am currently co-project manager for a project designing a bike shelter for a local community school. We have been involved with students and parents at the school as well as members of the Eugene community to help make this project happen. Below are some pictures of the site, constructing a mockup, and our final review (including the full-scale mockup).

dawning of the age of...
You may or may not know about my obsession with Aquarius, my beverage of choice in Japan (it's basically delicious Gatorade, with grapefruit undertones). With vending machines on literally every block, paired with Japan's heat and humidity, Aquarius became my addiction.
When I came back to the states I had to say goodbye to my beloved drink. But today, on this dreadful day of structure's exam grades, Dan surprised me with 1000 ml of Aquarius! He found it two hours away in Beaverton (...and no, he didn't drive to Beaverton just to get me Aquarius)

...if only we could be consuming it at Arashiyama.

loving leisel
As I have expressed previously, I love having artsy friends!
Yesterday I came across my friend Michelle's etsy shop, and purchased one of each print! If you don't know Michelle, I will sum her up in two words for you: Beautiful and Gifted. She really is a fantastic artist, and a bombshell to top it off.
Anyway, back to her etsy shop, so she made a bunch of cards for Valentine's Day...but what I saw when I logged in were prints to hang in my unborn children's nursery!! This one is Dan's and my favorite (only $11 for an 8.5 x 11), and $2 per card:
I am generating such a wonderful collection of original art, and it makes me so happy.

one of my favorite things about architecture school is....
being surrounded by creative minds! I like to pretend that I am creative, I am training myself to be a creative person, but honestly, it doesn't come naturally to me. I like math, most of my dreams are pretty ordinary, and I think very concretely (though I am fighting this tendency).
Architecture school though, I am surrounded by imaginative types, people whose minds think abstractly and differently. This I love.
This past weekend some friends from the program put all the art students to shame with an installation in the art gallery here. Triple Point- an exploration in paper. Dan and I decided to immerse ourselves in this creative process and help with the installation.
