Before and After- Rental Unit Kitchen

| |

Before
The most difficult part about this kitchen was the floors. In the second photo you can catch a glimpse of the green asbestos floor tiles that are hiding under original hardwood floors.

During
We were careful in removing the asbestos tiles to use suits, respirators, and make sure all tiles remained in tact. The tiles were the easy part, the mastic beneath though was a beast to get off. We tried every adhesive remover imaginable and we were hesitant to simply sand because we assumed the mastic also contained asbestos.

We decided to just paint the existing cabinets and reuse hardware from the kitchen renovation in our apartment. We had a hard time finding surface hinges so we spray painted the existing ones.

After
We decided to have the mastic professionally tested and it turns out it was asbestos free!Look how beautiful the hardwood is!
