this guy at work found out i was vegan and he said, "oh did you hear about the vegan family who killed their baby?" i said, "i know that's so sad. the parents needed to make sure their baby was fed a well rounded diet, and they didn't. it's neglect." then two days later he said, so did you know there was also a vegan couple in florida who killed their baby. i said oh the spinach thing? he said no. just vegan. i said, the same thing i said last time. and then added, "you know there are lots of lactose intolerant babies, and they by default are pretty much vegan (infants don't eat meat), and they are fine- there are alternatives ways to make sure your babies are healthy. these parents were just neglectful" he said, "yeah, all the vegan kids i know are really emaciated." i said, yeah "at the same time i know a lot of children who are obese and have diabetes- you just have to be health conscious regardless of your diet." then he kind of faded out.
so here is what bugs me about this conversation. 1) if you think vegans are psycho come out and say it, don't pretend like you are having a casual conversation and then disregard everything i say. the whole discourse was just really passive aggressive (woof). 2) you don't know what you are talking about.
i just can't stand judgmental people, and i feel like i encounter a lot (either regarding my religion or diet). if you don't understand why i do or believe something-just ask me! i won't try and convert you or make you feel bad about you eat, believe, or practice. in all honesty i could care less (which might not be a good thing).
if this blog seems familiar it is, i think i blogged about this exact thing a month ago. (sigh) i am sorry if this subject is getting old for you, its old for me too.
spread the love (hahahaha)

I thought I already posted a comment. It never showed up.
ARGH. I completely understand your frustrations, people (including my FAMILY) say things like that all the time. You should ask that guy how many vegan kids he knows- I would be surprised if he really knew any and if he does my guess is they aren't emaciated, they just aren't obese.
Here's to our hundreds of vegan babies we will raise on our respective dream farms
